There’s no difference between an individual obsessed with escaping shame and a thief. When a child is mistreated by adults with low emotional intelligence, leading to shame-induced trauma, they may grow into an adult who, like a thief frozen by fear of being caught, is paralyzed by the fear of shame. Parenting is a sensitive and collective responsibility that extends beyond biological relationships. As a community, we must recognize that the emotional well-being and development of children are fragile and require careful nurturing. Every adult has a role to play in ensuring that children are raised in a supportive environment that fosters healthy emotional growth and prevents the damaging effects of shame and fear. By acknowledging this shared responsibility, we can work together to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children to thrive.
